RWA: Medical Radiotherapy

The rotating-wave accelerator proposed for medical radiotherapy is composed of a single, short, 15 cm-long accelerating structure, a 3 GHz rf generator, an electron source, and a magnetic focusing system. The entire system apparatus should be about two-times smaller than conventional state-of-the-art accelerators and it will require less than half of the power required by its current counterparts. This should translate into a considerable price reduction by approximately a factor of two. Figure 1 shows a drawing of a radiation-therapy facility that makes use of the proposed RWA for the treatment of cancer.
